Our Church Transition

Our congregation is in a season of transition.

In 2018, the members of Pomona Fellowship Church of the Brethren voted unanimously to pursue selling our church building at 875 West Orange Grove Avenue, the place we have called home for 73 years. We felt that God was calling us to a new season of change and ministry, a season that would involve risk and unknowns, but would also result in renewed energy and faithful use of our resources.

On April 22, 2020, we officially sold our building to Crestwood Communities, a local developer with a heart for providing housing in this area. Our 3 acres are being transformed into single family homes, providing a place for 32 families to live and grow. On May 22, 2020, we officially left Orange Grove Avenue, where we have worshipped and served for 73 years.

Church

Thank you for 73 wonderful years on Orange Grove

We held several events to help us honor and say goodbye to this sacred place. Some of those events were virtual and have been preserved to watch again:

We also held an outdoor de-consecration service to bless the property for the neighborhood it will become:

Our congregation is discerning God's vision for us as we step into this season of unknowns. It is both a daunting and exciting time, but we are faithfully trusting that God will show us the next steps of our journey together.

In the meantime, our church offices are located in downtown Pomona, and as of July 4th we have a new rhythm to our worshipping life. On the 1st & 3rd Sundays of each month we are gathering to worship in the Parish Hall of St. Paul's Episcopal Church (242 E. Alvarado Street, Pomona). On the 2nd, 4th, & 5th Sundays, we worship over Zoom.

If you are looking for a Christian community that takes faithful risks and is exploring how to be the Church in new ways, we hope you will consider visiting us! Contact our church office to learn more.
